The explanation below teaches the ideas behind E6C while keeping the important terms recognizable. The Quiz Me button uses the current question-pool wording for this group.

1. Logic families define electrical behavior

CMOS and other logic families have defined supply voltages, thresholds, fan-out, propagation delay, and noise margin. Two devices can both represent 0 and 1 yet be electrically incompatible without level translation.

2. Memory stores state

Flip-flops, registers, RAM, ROM, and nonvolatile memory hold information in different ways. Volatile memory loses data without power; nonvolatile memory retains configuration or firmware.

3. Programmable logic moves wiring into configuration

PLDs, CPLDs, and FPGAs contain logic resources and programmable interconnections. They can implement counters, interfaces, DSP pipelines, or control logic without rewiring the board.

E6C checklist

  • Logic families differ in thresholds, speed, and drive capability.
  • Distinguish volatile from nonvolatile memory.
  • Flip-flops/registers store digital state.
  • FPGAs and related devices implement configurable logic and interconnects.
